BenarNews is an online news service affiliated with Radio Free Asia (RFA) that reports in Bengali, Thai, Bahasa Malaysia, Bahasa Indonesia and English, on pressing topics such as human rights, freedom of expression, conflict, climate change, politics and geopolitics. The Social Media Editor will conceive and create content for platforms like Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube to inform, engage, and grow BenarNews’s audience.

This contractor position is open to candidates who are based in the Philippines. The role is expected to work 40 hours/week during normal business hours in Asia, but occasionally in late evening/on the weekends in order to collaborate with Washington D.C colleagues. This is a contract position that expires on September 15, 2025. 

• Assist with the management of assigned BenarNews social channels.
• Create and commission social-first content in different formats to be published across social/digital platforms. 
• Pitch story ideas and maintain the social content calendar. 
• Work closely with the editorial team to drive audience growth and to increase engagement through SEO.
• Use keyword research and best practices to optimize content for SEO. 
• Conduct audience listening and research.
• Promote the quality, credibility and visibility of the BenarNews brand.
• Uphold and adhere to the BenarNews code of journalistic ethics and editorial guidelines.
• Other tasks as assigned.

• Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related field.
• Minimum of three years working as social media editor or manager for a digital news organization.
• Strong news judgment. 
• Ability to create crisp, lively news stories in English across platforms under tight deadlines.
• Extensive knowledge of established and emerging social media platforms. 
• Expert knowledge of social media and SEO trends. 
• Eagerness to research and test innovative ideas. 
• Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud and other creative tools.
• Fluent in English, and any proficiency in one of BenarNews’s coverage languages is highly preferred.
