Overview

The Digital Content Producer I for Web Editing, Lao Service is responsible for creating, editing, and publishing multimedia content across RFA Lao's digital platforms, including the website and app, to engage a diverse Lao audience. This role involves generating story ideas, planning and producing multimedia projects, translating stories into visually compelling video scripts, and managing audience-facing content such as the RFA Lao homepage. The producer is tasked with ensuring timely and accurate publication of news, feature programs, and video content while analyzing web traffic and providing insights to improve performance.

 

This is a full time position based in RFA‘s Washington DC office. 

Responsibilities

Web Content Management

  • To write, edit and produce content across RFA Lao’s platforms, website and app.
  • Ensuring that all content of news, feature programs, special coverage, and video/webcasting shows are posted on the Lao Service’s website in a timely manner.
  • Tracking and analyzing website traffic using appropriate analytical tools
  • Translating stories into video scripts that may include a variety of visual elements, such as reporter stand-ups, B-rolls, studio interviews, Skype interviews, and other relevant footage.
  • Researching information online and from other relevant news sources – including archival footage and photos as well as public records and government data – to support and enrich story writing.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and senior editorial staff and act as a shift lead as required, including acting as the final line of checking content prior to publication and triaging issues when they arise.
  • Take responsibility for content selection and treatment by managing audience-facing products like the RFA Lao home page.
  • Generate stories that are relevant to a broad section of the Laos population which reflects the cultural, geographic and socio-economic diversity of the country.
  • Ensuring the consistency of the visual layout of content and providing suggestions to supervisors as applicable.

 

Multimedia Content Production

  • Contribute ideas and assist in planning multimedia projects from story development, research, proposal to production, and drawing upon strong creative skills to explore new trends and approaches to multiplatform storytelling.
  • Using production equipment – digital cameras, DSLRs, audio recorders, microphones, lights, and more to perform a range of tasks related to video production, including lighting set up, camera set up, interview shooting, and B-roll shooting.
  • Editing video at level consistent with an understanding of basic video editing concepts and strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly in Adobe Premiere and After Effects.
  • Delivering clean, clear, and creative final product packages, including final videos, promotional videos and short descriptions, finalized scripts for web, as well as thumbnails in different formats tailored for different platforms and user groups.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education
        • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, multimedia studies,  or related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent transferable skills showing the ability to gather, produce, write, and present news and information clearly and objectively.
  • Experience
        • Demonstrated experience as a multi-platform journalist (at least one year full-time experience in a media company preferred), multimedia experience (including TV), website management, web editing and previous professional graphic design/video editing experience preferred.
  • Skills/Abilities
        • Professional experience working with content management systems (CMS)
        • Demonstrated proficiency in video editing and ability to edit video using Adobe Premier and After Effects. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Adobe Premier and After Effects and other graphics software (Canva), social analytics (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube), and third-party social management tools. 
        • Effective copywriting skills, intuitive knowledge of design, experience with visual storytelling, and ability to identify and select visual media (still image and video) that most effectively tells news stories
        • Knowledge and understanding of current political, economic and social conditions in Laos and surrounding countries.
        • Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment and discretion in evaluating and presenting news.
        • Experience managing social media platforms for news/media outlets and knowledge of and ability to utilize online media in creative and innovative ways and to adapt to new technologies as they evolve.
        • Strong general computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office Suite
        • Required language skills: Spoken and written fluency in Lao and working proficiency in English.
  • Competencies 
        • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate inputs from supervisors to meet goals and requirements

        • Professional ability to work well with remote colleagues and across multi-cultural teams

        • Flexible with the ability to adapt to changing priorities, deadlines, and production needs

Salary and Benefits 

Salary Range: 67,000-75,000/Year
