Overview

The Digital Content Producer II will be responsible for independently producing reporting video projects and series pilots for RFA's Lao Service, setting a high standard for other producers and freelancers. The role involves supervising staff to develop, plan, and execute video content, including story development, research, and production, they will also be mentoring junior producers, providing feedback on their work, and ensuring the overall quality of video content. 

Responsibilities

  • Independently producing video projects and series pilots while setting a high standard for other producers and freelancers.
  • Supervising a team of producers and freelancers to conceive and plan stand-alone videos and video series from story development, research, writing proposal, to production, and drawing upon strong creative skills to explore new trends and approaches to video storytelling.
  • Editing video and preparing the final edits of the videos at level consistent with advanced video editing concepts, with strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly in Adobe Premiere and After Effects.
  • Working with the Service Director to identify topics that are newsworthy for digital programs and to supervise videographers to shoot footage during field coverage when required.
  • Working with Service Director and Editors to plan and execute special multimedia packages. 
  • Directing and mentoring junior producers. Providing constructive feedback on their script development and productions, and maintaining the quality of the video team.
  • Delivering clean, clear, and creative final product packages, including final videos, promotional videos and short descriptions, finalized scripts for web, as well as thumbnails in different formats tailored for different platforms and user groups.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education
      • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, multimedia studies,  Asian studies or related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent transferable skills showing the ability to gather, produce, write, and present news and information clearly and objectively.
  • Experience
      • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in broadcast or print journalism in a reputable media organization; prior multimedia journalism experience a must.
  • Skills/Abilities
      • Demonstrated advanced skills in video editing and ability to edit video using Adobe Premier and After Effects. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Adobe Premier and After Effects and other graphics software (Canva), social analytics (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube), and third-party social management tools. 
      • Strong copywriting skills, intuitive knowledge of design, extensive experience with visual storytelling, and ability to identify and select visual media (still image and video) that most effectively tells news stories
      • Demonstrated strong skills in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly in Adobe Premiere and After Effects, and other graphics software (Canva), social analytics (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube), and third-party social management tools.
      • In-depth and extensive knowledge and understanding of current political, economic and social conditions in Lao  and surrounding countries.
      • Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment and discretion in evaluating and presenting news.
      • Professional experience managing social media platforms for news/media outlets and knowledge of and ability to utilize online media in creative and innovative ways and to adapt to new technologies as they evolve.
      • Required language skills: Spoken and written fluency in Lao, or strong willingness to learn, and working proficiency in English.
  • Competencies 
      • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate inputs from supervisors to meet goals and requirements

      • Professional ability to work well with remote colleagues and across multi-cultural teams

      • Flexible with the ability to adapt to changing priorities, deadlines, and production needs

Salary and Benefits 

Salary Range: 72,500-85,500/Year
