Overview

Radio Free Asia (RFA) is a private, Washington, DC-based, nonprofit corporation that provides accurate and timely news and information to Asian countries whose governments prohibit access to a free press. 

 

RFA’s Khmer Service is currently seeking a skilled multimedia profession who will be able to plan and execute the entire cycle of news production, creating compelling and engaging content that will help to broadcast through various digital platforms . This is a full-time position and is to be based in our Washington, DC, office.

 

This is an upcoming opening that will be available on Nov 1, 2024

Responsibilities

  • Planning and executing the entire cycle of multimedia production, from story development, research, proposal to production and final editing. Output formats include but are not limited to videos, reels, graphics, based on assigned stories, interviews conducted independently, and information gathered. 
  • Translating news stories into video scripts that may include a variety of visual elements, such as reporter stand-ups, B-rolls, interviews, and other relevant footage.
  • Using production equipment – digital cameras, DSLRs, audio recorders, microphones, lights, and more to perform a range of tasks related to video production, including lighting set up, camera set up, interview shooting, B-roll shooting and on-camera capability. 
  • Editing video at level consistent with an understanding of professional video editing concepts, with strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly in Adobe Premiere and After Effects.
  • Researching information online and from other relevant news sources – including archival footage, photos, public records, and government data – to support and enrich the digital content produced. 
  • Creating the final cuts/outputs drawing upon all available visual and audio means, delivering clean, clear, error-free, and creative final product packages.
  • Posting multimedia products to appropriate digital platforms, monitoring its viewership and feedbacks.  
  • Apply superb editorial judgment to identify news content suitable for different social media platforms, collaborating with team members to produce native social content.
  • Foster growth and engagement of the  target audience across different social media and digital platforms, responding to inquiries and moderating comments as necessary 
  • Consistently exploring and experimenting new trends and approaches to multimedia storytelling.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • Professional Experience: Minimum of 2  years of experience in creating and managing digital content for a news organization;.
  • Academic Credential: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication,  multimedia production, or related field from an accredited college or equivalent transferable skills showing ability to gather, produce, write, and present news in multimedia formats
  • Required language skills: Native fluency in Khmer is a must, with good proficiency in English. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in video editing and ability to using Adobe Premier and After Effects.  Experience with Microsoft FrontLook, ENPS and audio software preferred.
  • Effective copywriting skills, experience with visual storytelling, and able to select visuals that most effectively tells news stories
  • Familiar with social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, and using social media analytics to drive video  content creation 
  • Knowledge and understanding of current political, economic, and social conditions in Cambodia, as well as its cultural nuances and the people. 
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate inputs from supervisors to meet goals and requirements
  • Professional ability to work well with remote colleagues and across multi-cultural teams
  • Flexible with the ability to adapt to changing priorities, deadlines, and production needs

Salary and Benefits 

Salary Range: 65,000-75,000/Years
